Bachelor of Science (Environment)The Department offers a three-year programme
leading to the bachelors degree in Environmental Science. This degree
is at the honours level and is ecognised as a professional degree by the
Malaysian Public Services Department. A semester system is followed and there are two semesters a year, starting in July and December, each of 15 weeks duration. Students need to complete 100 credits of coursework which includes professional practical training (3 credits) and the completion of an independent study Project (6 kredit). One credit is the equivalent of a one-hour lecture or a three hour practical class per week. to graduate in three years the workload for each semester is approximately 15-18 credits. This normally involves taking five to seven subjects per semester. The University practises a continuous assessment system. Approximately 60% of the total course grade is assessed by tests or coursework given during the semester. The remaing percentage of the grade is based on a Final Examination at the end of the semester. This degree is assessed yearly by an independent External Examiner from another university. For example in previous years External Examiners have come from Imperial College, London; the University of Virginia, Charlottesville; and the University of East Anglia, Norwich.
