Background
The Department of Environmental Management was established in September 2004 when the Faculty of Environmental Studies was established. The department started offering courses in management and planning of the consisting of Bachelor of Environmental Management, Masters and Ph.D in the field of environment, including other programs in UPM.
The Department's purpose is to shape graduates that can relate the biophysical science aspect with the economic and socio-science aspect in an effort to understand the interaction between man and nature and to plan and manage a sustainable development.
The academic staffs of the Department have backgrounds in applied science and humanities. Areas of expertise include policy and management of the environment, legislature, economy, planning, transport, education, ethics, waste management, environmental management system, marine and aquatic research and city and country planning.
In the year 2008, the Department Enviromental Management had 14 academic staffs comprising of 2 Professors, 4 Associate Professors, 1 Lecturer and 7 Tutors. The department has 11 support staffs which comprise of 3 Assistant Science Officers, 5 Laboratory Assistants, 1 Assistant Administrator (Secretaryship), 1 Assistant Administrator (Clerical/Operation) and 1 General Assistant.
